Henry Ford Health, an academic medical center serving Detroit and the surrounding metropolitan areas has an opening for the Director of Psychotherapy Services for the Adult Outpatient Division. Henry Ford Health is recognized as a leader in integrated health services. The Department of Psychiatry’s outpatient division sees approximately 20,0000 unique patients yearly with a total of about 130, 000 visits. The Department initiated Zero Suicide and has provided guidance to other organizations including the US Army in their efforts to reduce suicides. It recently established a cooperative agreement with Michigan State University for research and clinical programming. It is now planning a new hospital complex at its main campus. The Department of Psychiatry is building a new inpatient hospital with 192 beds scheduled to open in 2024.

Henry Ford has training programs in most medical specialties including Psychiatry and has an APA Accredited Internship in Clinical Psychology, and postdoctoral fellowships in Health Psychology and Neuropsychology. This person is appointed to the Bioscientific Staff of the Medical Group and may serve as faculty in these training programs.

GENERAL SUMMARY:

This individual is a member of the leadership team of the department and has primary responsibility for the organization, planning, and evaluation of psychotherapy services provided by the adult psychotherapy staff. Specific duties include hiring, onboarding, training, and performing performance evaluations; development and monitoring outcomes in finance, quality, and satisfaction; working with site supervisors to facilitate the implementation of policies, procedures, clinical programming, and improvements. Makes operational changes to ensure cost, quality, and satisfaction targets are achieved. Identifies and implements strategic initiatives.

 

PRINCIPLE DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Patient Care

  1. Conducts diagnostic and psychosocial assessments and treatment planning to determine the appropriate level of care and services for patients and their families.
  2. Provides evidence-based care in the diagnosis and treatment of mental disorders and substance use disorders in children, adolescents, adults, and geriatric patients (as qualified) in an outpatient setting.
  3. Performs evidence-based psychotherapy including individual, conjoint, family, group and didactic as qualified.
  4. Provides urgent consultation/evaluations and crisis services as necessary to stabilize patient functioning and maintain continuity of care.
  5. Completes all clinical documentation in a timely manner and in accordance with state and Federal regulatory agencies and Henry Ford Behavioral Health standards and expectations.
  6. Ensures access for patient appointments is timely and in accordance with clinic expectations and standards.

ADDITIONAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  1. Be accountable for the effective operation of the patient care services, including adherence to BHS policies and guidelines with respect to productivity, professional behavior, quality of care, patient satisfaction, internal customer satisfaction, and other performance indicators deemed important.
  2. Develop a partnership and relationship with Senior Clinical staff.
  3. Partners with Senior Clinic Leader when hiring new Psychotherapists. Ensures short- and long-term plans are in place to recruit and retain.
  4. Determines minimum requirements for new hire therapists. Properly inducts and/or assimilates new employees into Henry Ford Health System, Behavioral Health Services through the onboarding process.
  5. Serves as a liaison to BHS leadership team as it relates to therapist concerns.
  6. Provides supervision of psychotherapists at designated site including mentoring, trains, directs, coaches, evaluates, and as necessary, disciplines departmental employees.
  7. Provide performance feedback for psychotherapists and site-specific psychotherapy supervisors through review of chart documentation, coding and performance in mid-year and annual reviews.
  8. Will assist in the development & dissemination of core departmental expectations for therapists (educational requirements, quality audit process, vacation coverage requirements, etc.); (each site may issue stricter guidelines, but must be in compliance with established general departmental guidelines)
  9. Regular review of Productivity, EPIC and Schedules.
  10. Meets regularly with therapist leads to identify common areas of concern, possibilities for right-sizing therapist services, identify any issues that need to be escalated, resolving issues and completing effective process redesigns, and/or any recommendations for changes/improvements.
  11. Facilitate regular team meetings for site Psychotherapists and make recommendations to the medical director, as appropriate, regarding performance and strategic issues.
  12. Provide oversight for the service recovery and patient complaint process with direct involvement as necessary to achieve closure.
  13. Adhere to all required education and training offered through Henry Ford University.

Quality Management

  1. Develop, implement, and assure adherence to quality standards, improvement programs, and practice consistency in cooperation with the medical director, local division heads, and department chair where applicable.
  2. Compliance with all accreditors and regulators (EG. Joint Commission, Blue Cross, Medicare, HIPAA).
  3. Participates in Departmental Quality Improvement initiatives, including but not limited to patient satisfaction and outcome studies.

Maintain Financial Health

  1. Partners with Department leadership to understand financial performance and maintain the financial health of the Department of Psychiatry, by maintaining departmental productivity/utilization expectations and optimizing the revenue cycle.
  2. Performs and complies with all managed care practice and standards including but not limited to obtaining appropriate pre and re-authorizations for service, providing timely feedback to referral sources and case managers.

Research/Education

  1. Participates in the education, either by didactic presentations or clinical supervision of departmental trainees as qualified.
  2. Completion of required continuing education credits per year.
  3. Completes Annual Mandatory Educational Courses as assignment by BHS and/or HFHS.
  4. Maintains core competencies as defined by Behavioral Health.
  5. Partners and collaborates with the BHS research enterprise to fulfill the academic mission of the Department of Psychiatry.

Qualifications - External

EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE REQUIRED:

  • Doctoral degree in clinical or health service psychology (PhD or PsyD)
  • Minimum of two years post-doctoral training or experience in adult psychology, and licensure as a psychologist in Michigan

CERTIFICATIONS/LICENSURES REQUIRED:

  • Fully Licensed Psychologist.
  • Board Certification by the American Board of Professional Psychology, preferred.
